EA announces Alice Madness Returns

In another EA Games surprise today we see the announcement of Alice: Madness Returns, or American McGee’s Alice 2 if you prefer.

In the first game, Alice was confined to Rutledge Asylum after being emotionally traumatised after a house fire took both her parents and left her burned, losing her mind and slipping in and out of the twisted and frightening world of Wonderland. Now, in the sequel set eleven years later, Alice is finally free to leave.

Put into a psychiatrist’s care, Alice is frightened and confused by both her change in scenery, and inability to escape from her demons. As one does, she returns to Wonderland in search of answers, an in turns finds her once beautiful dream-scape world ravaged by a great evil.

While gameplay details are scarce, the game is described as an action adventure, we suspect it will play quite similar to the original, with Alice hacking and slashing her way through a colourful cast of disturbing creatures, conversing with outlandish characters, and exploring the seedy depths and twisted halls of Wonderland.

The game is set for a release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 sometime in 2011. In the meantime, check out the artwork and the teaser trailer below, and the official website.
