Facebook gets 500 million friends

Social networking site Facebook now has over 500 million active users, according to its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The site celebrated its sixth birthday in February, at which point it had 400 million users. Zuckerberg has said he thinks there’s a good chance that Facebook’s membership will exceed one billion users.
“As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them,” he wrote yesterday. “This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world. Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about.”
Facebook is the leading distributor of social games, a market that was worth US$639 million in 2009, according to a recent Screen Digest report.
