Ryan Reynolds’ “Green Lantern” movie will get an accompanying video game for Summer 2011, which should not come as a shocker to anyone. Dubbed “Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters,” the announcement from Warner Bros. Interactive came in time for San Diego Comic-Con, which is even less surprising.

“‘Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters’ gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books,” Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment senior VP of production and development Samantha Ryan said in a press release. “The game is the first to center around DC Comics’ Green Lantern franchise and we’re excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay.”

The game will come as part of a broader push to get more DC heroes into WBIE titles. “On the game side there will be more following Green Lantern that we hope to directly be impacting creatively and otherwise,” DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson said, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.

That initiative will even include less well-known properties like “Suicide Squad,” which DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns described as “hardcore violent” in an SDCC panel report on Comic Book Resources.

Marvel fans have been getting regular fixes from Spider-Man and Iron Man games for some time, so console-owning DC fanboys out there should be happy to know about such plans.
