Commodore 64 comes back from the dead

What was your first computer? Was it a Commodore 64? If so, it can now be your next computer as well.

Commodore USA has announced its newest machine: the Commodore PC64. It’s a replica of the beige ’80s wonder updated to whatever the hell it is we call this decade.

According to the press release, it features an Intel Atom 525 CPU with Nvidia Ion2 graphics and HDMI out, 4GB DDR3 memory, a 1TB HDD, DVD drive (Blu-ray optional), six USB ports, 802.11n wireless and a six-in-one media card reader.

It’s unknown whether the company will keep the old clunky keyboard or update it with something more modern but equally poo-brown. And will there be an Australian release? Well, we’ll be squeezing our eyes shut really tight and crossing all our fingers when we blow out our birthday candles.

The company has also announced a “Pro” version, which features a grey box and some seriously sweet specs. It will feature a 2.66GHz Intel Core I7 processor, Nvidia GeForce GT 330M with 512MB on-board memory, 2TB hard drive, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM and a Blu-ray drive.

While the company hasn’t set a date on the “beige” version the Pro will be available in the US in late 2010.
