Sony announces MUBI, a new streaming movie service for PlayStation 3

Sony has announced that a brand new streaming service called MUBI will launch prior to Christmas.

MUBI will complement and enhance the wider PS3 offering with a library of acclaimed independent and classic films curated by movie experts, and the application is anticipated to attract not only a local, but global cinema community.

And to help you cope with all this new media Sony are rolling out two new PS3 models with extra storage. The new larger hard disc drive 320GB console will be made available from September 16, while a 160GB model will be made available in stores from September 23.

“PlayStation 3 has continued to enjoy unprecedented uplift in sales over the past year and is set to really take off this Christmas.  With more and more innovations being added to the PlayStation 3, one thing consumers can count on is that with firmware upgrades, PlayStation 3 is truly future proofed and consumers will enjoy their investment for a long time to come.    With new on demand services across movies, music and TV; and with even more to come before Christmas, home entertainment fans are continually being delivered more content and unique innovations that the whole family can enjoy,” said David Hine, Sales & Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand.

He continued “We are anticipating particularly strong sales for PlayStation 3 consoles, PlayStation Move motion controller and the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5.  With a whole range of entertainment features you can see why we say that gaming is just the start of your PlayStation 3 experience.”
