Sony has launched a new PS3 firmware update, version 3.42, “to address security vulnerability in the system software”.

While it hasn’t been confirmed by the platform holder, it’s believed that the new system update has been released to disable USB-hub emulating exploits like PS Groove, PSFreedom and PS Jailbreak.

A Sony spokesperson said: “Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary with regards to this case; however, as we always have we will continue to take necessary actions from both hardware and software to protect the intellectual property of the content offered on the PS3 system.”
