God of War director joins team on Mad Max game

Cory Barlog announced more than two years ago that he was working on a game version of Mad Max 4: Fury Road, but in all that time nothing has been seen of the game (or, so far as we know, the film).
Since Barlog left SCE Santa Monica Studio in 2007 it’s never been clear who the actual developer is behind the game. However, it now emerges that Barlog is working with Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche Studios on ‘an unannounced game’.
‘I can’t comment on the projects we are working on,’ said Avalanche founder Christofer Sundberg to website Eurogamer. ‘But Cory is working here with us in Stockholm as you have probably read on his Twitter recently.’
Examining said Twitter posts reveal a lot of fairly vague comments, such as: ‘More info to come soon! No details on platforms but I promise I will keep you all posted!’
The most telling though is the following: ‘We are planning to release somewhere near the film…exact date TBD. We won’t be putting anything out for a bit, sorry:(‘
That seems like an obvious smoking gun, but Sundberg would reveal only that Avalanche are working on three games and he’s not allowed to talk about any of them until at least next year.
They’re both fairly talented developers so we’re definitely keen to see what they come up with. But Mad Max’s post apocalyptic setting has been ripped off so many times recently, in everything from Fallout to the forthcoming Rage, that they’re going to have their work cut out for them making the official tie-in stand out.
