320 million people have played Zynga games
Mark Pincus, CEO and founder of Zynga, talked about the rise of his social game company at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco yesterday.
Pincus (pictured) highlighted the fact that the company has 1,300 employees across 13 studios in six different countries. He said Zynga has made six acquisitions of other studios in the last six months and there are currently 400 employees focused on new IP at the company.
He also mentioned “Dog Activated”, a new social experience that will be implemented across the Zynga network, allowing users to see – via the Zynga dog logo – when other users are playing Zynga games.
Pincus said that 320 million people have played a Zynga game and that FrontierVille, a game similar to FarmVille, has 650,000 same-sex marriages, which Pincus described as “amazing, that’s probably more than any country in the whole world”.
Last month a US-based analyst estimated that Zynga’s stock value had doubled since March, and valued the company overall at $5.51 billion – higher than publisher and developer EA’s Nasdaq stock market value.
