Microsoft’s Kinect sales breeze past 2.5 million

Microsoft Corp. today announced it has sold more than 2.5 million Kinect sensors to consumers worldwide since it launched less than four weeks ago. More than one million units were sold during the US three-day Black Friday weekend.
“We are extremely excited to see how consumers have responded to Kinect in New Zealand and around the world. It is truly revolutionary entertainment that creates a magical experience for the whole family,” says David McLean, General Manager of Xbox, Microsoft Australia and New Zealand.
“Kinect will be one of the biggest gifts for Christmas this year, and is to date one of the most significant consumer electronic product launches in history. We’re currently on track to reach our forecast of five million units sold to consumers by the end of the year.”
Kinect is now available at more than 60,000 retailers in 38 countries. It is the only controller-free games and entertainment system available that lets you control games and movies, with gestures and movement. Retailers, reviewers and analysts are calling it a must-have gift this Christmas.
