Nintendo building new Kyoto R&D facility

Nintendo is to invest over 12 billion yen to build a new research and development facility near its Kyoto headquarters.

The site is a stone’s throw from Nintendo’s main office(pictured above), and much closer than its current Kyoto Research Centre, which is in Higashiyama Ward.

Nintendo’s aim in bringing its R&D offices closer to home is to improve efficiency. The new, seven-storey premises will house 1500 employees, and become Nintendo’s main research facility, primarily focusing on product development.

Nintendo acquired the site, previously a driving range, in late 2008. It hopes to have works completing by 2013.
