PSP Gone: Sony discontinues the PSP Go

Sony has revealed that it will no longer manufacture the PSPgo portable games console.
Sony confirmed rumours that the console, just over two years old, will be discontinued. Any units still being stocked in warehouses around the world will remain on sale until they’re gone.
The PSPgo is a slimmed down version of the PSP. It launched in 2009, weighing in at around half the size of the PSP by leaving out the UMD disk drive and housing the controls on a slide-out panel.
Why has Sony killed the console so soon? We’ll probably never know, but rumours are that the PSPgo never reached sales targets. It’s certainly a tough market with stiff competition coming from the Nintendo DS Lite and the iPod Touch.
The PSPgo may have been axed to make way for the Sony Ericsson PSP phone, the Xperia Play, which is fairly similar to the PSPgo. Either way, Sony has committed to continue on with the more popular PSP-3000.
