During its pre-Tokyo Game Show press event today Team Ninja announced that Dead or Alive 5 will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.

Head of the studio, Yosuke Hayashi, asked press to turn off all cameras and recording equipment, so no footage or screenshots of the pre-alpha build currently exist. A demo was then shown, depicting Ryu Habayusa in the middle of a ruined city.

The developer also heralded an evolution of the famous series, with the game looking to focusing on delivering high class visuals and ‘fighting as entertainment.’

Dead or Alive 5 is expected to be out for Xbox and PS3 sometime next year.
