Gears 3 shifts over 3 million units in 5 days

The finale to the Gears of War trilogy is proving to be a massive hit for Microsoft and EPIC, selling more than 3 Million copies in its first 5 days on store shelves.

This makes the launch of Gears of War 3 the best launch of 2011 — beating out Pokémon Black/White. The huge sales numbers also make Gears 3 the 6th biggest Xbox 360 launch week all-time, worldwide, just behind Grand Theft Auto IV.

The franchise typically sees around 6-6.5 million units lifetime, but Gears 3 is set to buck the trend and should surpass 8 million units.
