Just one day after releasing Modern Warfare 3, Activision has confirmed that the next installment of their massive Call of Duty franchise will be making a return in 2012.
Call of Duty has been an annual franchise for some time now, with development duties being shared between Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch.
“As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing,” CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed in a statement.
“As a result, we expect to deliver another year of profitable growth. I believe our unyielding commitment to excellence and our creative talent around the globe will continue to position Activision Blizzard as the leader in interactive entertainment.”
While Sledgehammer Games helped out on Modern Warfare 3, Treyarch will likely be the driving force behind next year’s game, which could continue with the cold war theme set out in Call of Duty: Black Ops.
