The hit film “Starship Troopers” looks like it is getting a remake. Sony Pictures has reportedly teamed up with producer Neal Moritz to set the wheels in motion for the reboot.

The original was released in 1997 and starred the likes of Denise Richards and Neil Patrick Harris as soldiers in an intergalactic battle against a race of giant alien insects. The Paul Verhoeven-directed movie has gone on to become a cult favourite among sci-fi fans.

X-Men First Class writers Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz have signed on to write the script for the reboot, but as yet there’s been no word on a director or any casting details.

In addition to “Starship Troopers,” Verhoeven also directed a number of other trashy ‘90s classics, including the thriller “Basic Instinct” and “Total Recall.”The latter is also getting a reboot that is scheduled to hit cinemas next year.
