Bethesda secures rights for Fallout MMO

The legal fight between publishers Interplay and Bethesda has come to an end. Bethesda now owns all the rights to the Fallout brand, including those to Interplay’s proposed MMO.
Interplay, which gets $2 million from the settlement, is still allowed to sell Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout: Tactics until December 2013, at which point Bethesda takes those over as well.
Robert Altman, chairman and CEO of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax says he’s happy it’s all over and done with.
“While we strongly believe in the merits of our suits, we are pleased to avoid the distraction and expense of litigation while completely resolving all claims to the Fallout IP. Fallout is an important property of ZeniMax and we are now able to develop future Fallout titles for our fans without third party involvement or the overhang of others’ legal claims.”
Hopefully this means that Bethesda can now get to work on the Fallout MMO.
