Namco Bandai and Paramount are joining forces to release the new Star Trek tie-in, which will be coming to PC and consoles in 2013.

The game is due to arrive early next year and is being touted as an “action-packed combat game” that is being written by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk.

The new Trek title will follow the Kirk and Spock characters in an adventure which will see them attempt to stop a “legendary enemy race” from conquering the galaxy.  The game was originally unveiled at E3 last year and is in production at Digital Extremes, the team behind The Darkness II and BioShock 2.

“Star Trek continues to be one of the most beloved entertainment properties around the world, and Namco Bandai is extremely excited to be teaming up with Paramount Pictures to create the definitive Star Trek interactive experience,” said Olivier Comte, SVP of Marketing for Namco Bandai.

The game will launch in 2013 to coincide with the release of a second Star Trek film due May 17, 2013.
