According to reports, SEGA has been sitting on a completed high-definition port of the Dreamcast classic Shenmue for over a year now, with the sequel ready to go as well.
This rumour stems from a Gamerzines report, that says Sega hasn’t released them yet because they’re not sure of their plans for the Shenmue franchise. Namely, they’re not sure whether they’re making Shenmue III.
“The games that were mentioned are definitely among the most requested re-releases”, SEGA responded. “We can’t go into specifics about our future releases, but we are excited to see so much passion surrounding our Dreamcast-era games.”
Shenmue debuted on the Dreamcast in 1999, reportedly costing SEGA over $47 million to create, making it the most expensive game of its time by far.
Earlier this week, SEGA teased that they “may be working on” an HD re-release of Shenmue.
